Who is Warren Bengtson
Well-known in East Central Minnesota horse-world, Warren received professional horse-shoeing training in July 1967. At age 86, farrier work, horse training and speaking are activities he continues today.
Warren’s Philosophy of Horsemanship
In its simplest and purest form, horsemanship is an ongoing flow of meaningful transactions between horse and handler, opening the way to a mutually satisfying relationship and partnership.
Surrender and commitment are foundational reflections of each other. I am committed to bringing the horse as close as possible to his full potential; this will include an empathy that keeps me mindful and respectful of the horse’s personhood. This happens while providing the leadership and structure he needs to willingly navigate the handler’s expectations.
The horse must find that sweet spot of surrender before he is ready to commit to the handler’s agenda. As a trainer, it is my responsibility and privilege to guide him in his search for the right responses. When handling is caring and competent, surrender is very positive and allows a horse to be a participant instead of a subject.
Spiritual Perspectives
Surrender and commitment are foundational to Christian discipleship. Their effectiveness takes form as the believer continues to grow in grace. The believer is born again in crisis, growth is ongoing and the maturing process continues.
Because of the profound parallels between discipleship and horsemanship, what I learn as I grow in grace helps me draw my horse into the partnership I want to share with him. There are striking similarities in the conflict and disorder that leave both Christians and horses in a state of despair. When surrender and commitment find their God-given balance, we begin to enjoy the abundant life our Savior died to give us, enabling us to boldly approach the throne of grace to find help in time of need.
Retirement and Rustic Western Decor
Warren's heart has always been in ministry. Seven years prior to his horseshoe training and while attending Bible college, he developed a ministry with the Ojibwe Indian people living between Hinckley, MN and Danbury, WI. Warren regards that chapter in his life as a big part of God’s plan. Life is like a book with chapters, where old ones close and new ones begin.
Warren has discovered that retirement is an ongoing opportunity to do more of what he loves. Since horses have been a large part of Warren's work and focus throughout his life, he assimilates this backdrop in creating Rustic Western Decor. Please take a moment and review some of the unique pieces he offers for sale. Thank you.
A Closing Note from Warren:
“I want to thank Fred and Dianna Carlson for the considerable work they have done to bring this website and YouTube Channel into being. I have had thoughts about this in the past but didn’t know how to pursue it. They got the ball rolling and gave me the push I needed. I am so grateful they did and now we are getting in motion.
I have a twofold agenda for the rest of my earthly journey—help people enjoy their Savior — or find Him if they don’t know Him, and help them enjoy their horses. I will do my best on both counts as I look to Him to direct my steps.”
