Kind Words From Friends

“I first met Warren when he came to my farm nearly 50 years ago…”

Warren came to my farm to trim my five horses. Fascinated with his horse skills, I was even more intrigued with his love for people and gained a deep appreciation for his story-telling ability. Within those brief hours with Warren, I gained valuable insight into horses — and human nature. Each time when he left, I felt I had become a better person.

After my horses were gone, I lost touch with Warren for over 20 years. Recently, we rediscovered our friendship and once again his faith, stories, poems and teaching are enriching my life. I sincerely hope you'll consider opening the door to experience the same.

“Rush City’s Warren Bengston has been named the Minnesota Horse Council’s “Horseperson of the Year.”

A book of horse training inspired him, and after four years at a riding stable and three years training horses in Pine County, he spent the next 49 helping people with horse problems and helping horses with people problems, while providing farrier service that was respectful to both horse and owner. Through the years, thousands of horses have been saved from slaughter and reunited in a long, safe and healthy relationship between the horse owner and the horse through Bengston’s work.

“It was a surprise to be chosen and honored by the Minnesota Horse Council,” Bengston said.  “I have been fortunate to have a vocation that I still enjoy.”

Warren remembers this moment quite vividly, staring out a school bus window almost 70 years ago. That one moment was a calling that would follow Bengston, 80 [now 86], for the rest of his life.
